What is "what is"?

 Meaning exists in the physical universe as a function of love, friendship, and compassion.

The capacity for love has a particular quality we call "empathy." This is, to see another's needs and wants, to feel compassion towards them, and act compassionately. 

In other words, empathy is the ability is to anticipate, understand, and act according to anothers' thoughts.

I believe the universe is a complex web of self-referential phenomena, eternally communicating through all planes of thought stemming from an original thinker.
